is probably because it’s the last we’ll get of him

and it was sherlock finally assuaging his guilt or other issues and getting over it

and that’s why it was back in time and why it ended the way it did

because (with the help of friends) sherlock’s letting go of jim and his brilliant mind and distractions

and has to look only towards the future to stay sane and clean

and that that’s just kind of….the canonical end for even mind palace jim

sherlock literally couldn’t finish it on his own

but he did finish it

this episode was jim’s swan song.
